Leo X excommunicates Luther

On 3 January 1521, the bull Decet Romanum Pontificem excommunicated Martin Luther, sealing the break of the Reformation.

After refusing to recant, Martin Luther was formally excommunicated by Leo X; the break with Rome was complete.
