Signing of the UN Charter
On 26 June 1945, in San Francisco, fifty-one states signed the founding Charter of the United Nations.
In force from 24 October 1945, the Charter established bodies including the Security Council and the General Assembly in the aftermath of the Second World War.

Assassination of Francisco Pizarro
On 26 June 1541, the conquistador Francisco Pizarro, conqueror of the Inca empire, was assassinated in his palace at Lima by supporters of his rival Almagro.
The conquistadors' rivalry over the division of Peru degenerated into civil war. Pizarro fell under the blows of some twenty attackers during his dinner.

Death of Emperor Julian
On 26 June 363, the Roman emperor Julian, called the Apostate, died of a wound received while campaigning against the Sasanian Persians near Samarra.
The last pagan emperor, he had tried to restore the old cults against Christianity. His death ended the Constantinian dynasty; Jovian succeeded him.
